GLISSANDO (FORMERLY SEA DOG) AS FOUND
ON CHEBEAGUE ISLAND, MAINE.  AUGUST 16, 1999

There she was, half-buried in weeds and filth, resting on an ancient marine railway cradle.

The transom.  You can still see the ghost of her old name--Sea Dog.

The bow, with quality green tarp.  (I got to keep the tarp...lucky me!)  Oh, and on the ground to the left is my true prize--an ancient, expired flare kit that I also got to keep.

The deck, looking aft.  Depressing doesn't even begin to describe it.  Weathered, splintery lumber...dry, dull, cracked gelcoat...all baking in the 80° summer heat, with katydids chirping in the field.

The deck, looking forward.  Yeah, I got to keep that boathook, too.  And, as a bonus--that nice blue cushion!

The poop deck, with all the gelcoat ground off and resin everywhere.  I think the ugly gold of the oxidized epoxy goes well with the faded robin's egg blue of the nonskid, don't you?

The port deck.  The previous owner cut open the deck and installed a marine plywood core, then began covering it with mat and woven roving.  As you neared the bow, there was less and less glass; there was only one layer of glass on the foredeck.  I think I should have kept that color...it's a look!

The mast in the field next to the boat, after the yard guys brought it out from the rafters of the barn where it had been stored for 7 years.  One of the jumpers is bent...I can't really tell from looking at the photo.  I replaced them, of course.
